Welcome

Welcome to the Frankfort Car Club web site. Come join us every Thursday evening through the summer in downtown Frankfort. Bring your classic or antique car - or just come and look. It's a great way to spend a "family" evening.

President’s Message for February 2010

Well, my first meeting as your president is history. I hope that those of you who attended found it to be orderly, pleasant, and informative. I will make every attempt to keep the length of the business part of our meetings to one hour and guest speakers to twenty minutes. John Nystrom just locked down our first volunteer guest speaker. He will speak at our March meeting and I will provide more details in our March newsletter. Thanks, John. It is my hope that John just got the ball rolling, and that I hear from more of you concerning this opportunity.
     It was great to hear from some of you about the “24 hours of lemons”. Wow, I brought that up in our January meeting just to get all of us thinking about one time projects that we should consider just to break the beat of doing the same things over and over. I really think that the 24 hours project might be growing legs. It looks like they will be coming to Joliet and holding this event at the Autobahn in the fall.  Keep this in mind, and if there is enough interest, you just might see a Frankfort Car Club entry. For the record, I don’t anticipate this being funded by our club treasury. This could be a fun project for our club. Let’s keep it going.
     Over the past year or so I have noticed that someone was leaving old classic car magazines and newspapers on various tables at our meetings. I checked around and found that Paul Quattrocki and John Nystrom do this on a regular basis. I think this is a great idea and I encourage all of you to bring any old classic car information to our monthly meetings to share with your fellow members.
     I have more good news. Dave Mosier has agreed to become our club’s first official Garage Tour Coordinator. If any of you know of a garage that might interest our club, please get in touch with Dave, give him the information, and help him set it up. Garage tours keep our club active during the winter months when we are not deeply involved with our cruise nights. Thanks, Dave. It looks like we have a garage tour set up for February, thanks to Bob O’Connor.
     Our next meeting will be on Wednesday February 10th in the Frankfort Township Building. I hope to see you there.

MEMBERSHIP REPORT FEBRUARY 2010

Our first meeting of the New Year was well attended. A minor matter of a missing coffee peculator was resolved the next morning when I found it placed in another cabinet at the township building. Apparently, another organization ‘borrowed’ it for a large December function, and failed to return it to ‘our’ cabinet. We simply ‘borrowed’ somebody else’s for the meeting and all went well.
            We have 1 new membership to report for January.
Please welcome;

Joe Bortz & Debra Powless

If you didn’t recognize the name, you haven’t paid much attention to the old car hobby. Joe has amassed the largest private collection of ex factory concept and prototype cars in the country. Numerous magazine articles and prestigious concours events have featured his cars.  Perhaps some time we might be invited to take a garage tour of the collection.

As usual, labels were printed on the last day of the month. If your label still shows a 09 after your name, it’s time to renew. Renewal forms were in the January issue, and are available at any meeting or on the website- www.thefrankfortcarclub.com

Garage Tours Continue

Our January garage tour to Ron’s Toy Box was very well attended, with an estimated 75 folks on hand at the height of the day. The Toy Box was a perfect example of a well organized and equipped hobby building, a club house of sorts. Hats off the Ron Cocco for the invite!

Our February tour takes to west suburban Plainfield for a tour of Midwest Hot Rods. This is a full service shop capable of doing of a complete build. We will leave downtown Frankfort (cruise night lot) at noon on Saturday Feb. 13th for a 1:00 tour.  Members may wish to car pool.  Sign up sheet and directions at the February meeting!
